That morning, we left Ivalo, the last town before crossing the Norwegian border at the end of the day. We set off for over a hundred kilometers through Sami lands, skirting the majestic lakes of Finland.
I feel a mix of emotions. Finland wasn't the country I was most looking forward to, and yet… It profoundly affected me. Raw beauty. Remarkable people.
The route is simple: the same road we've been following for days now. No need to consult a map. Everything is closed along our route: cafes, shops, sleepy villages. Too early in the year. Too far from everything.
We are alone, but at peace. At a small intersection, I read for the first time on a sign: Nordkapp — 343 (kilometers).
We'll be there the day after tomorrow. That's when things get real.
