We arrive in Reine. A postcard image from this trip, undoubtedly one of the most iconic places in Norway. When you think of this country, you often picture this small fishing village, perched on the water's edge, almost entirely red, watched over by imposing rock giants that encircle it like a fortress.
Here, fishing is the tradition. All around us, huge wooden racks are used to dry fish. And the pungent, acidic smell fills the air as soon as you approach. It's still early; no one else seems awake. In this morning silence, our senses are on high alert. The slightest sound, the faintest scent, the cold caress of the wind on our faces: everything seems more intense, more real.
We take advantage of this interlude, this morning freshness, before climbing onto the ferry and falling back asleep, lulled by the waves.
