On the deck of our ferry docking at Senja Island, the wind is icy and the sky is almost clear.
From the very first kilometers, it's a visual shock: 200-meter cliffs plunge into a turquoise sea.
Turquoise. Above the Arctic Circle.
Here, the dilemma of sea or mountains is not a question. Everything is here, in the same place.
Snow-capped peaks, clear water, winding and deserted roads. You quickly realize that this island is a natural gem.
We pedal without speaking.

We take in the beauty.
Senja is one of those places that seems forgotten by the world, off the beaten tourist track. And that's just fine with us. We cross the island from one end to the other, thinking we can reach the Lofoten Islands by another ferry, but once we arrive: surprise, it's off-season. No boats for two months. We turn back.
That's also part of the journey. The unexpected events, the detours, the solutions that we invent as we go along.
